Message from  the President

Dear all the parties concerned,

We are so happy to have realized our Decennial Memorial Day on May 1st, 2010, after KPA started its commercial operation in May 1st, year 2000.

Taking this opportunity and also representing KPA Management, I would like to express my hearty gratitude towards all the employees of KPA who worked so hard, and all the O&M people coming from Pupuk Kaltim, all those who supported KPA’s operation so far.

During 10 years, we have experienced both hard times and good times, but especially for several years right after the commercial operation started, I dare to say that it was really crucial times for KPA to struggle and survive.

Thanks to all the members of KPA’s dedicated and strenuous efforts, we could conquer such hard times and, as of today, we are making our constant steps forward to our goal, World Class Ammonia Manufacturer.

Our most important policy is / has been SAFETY, amongst QESH and Compliance.  This was proven last October with the achievements of cumulative Ammonia production of 6 million tons, and 3,000 days consecutive safety operation without downtimes caused by injuries.

I am very much proud of these great records of the Company, as well as the quality of efforts and diligence shown by all the members of KPA.

Ammonia plant itself is very important assets but, I would like to stress, the quality of the employees is also important assets to the Company.

Our operation is now stable and efficient, further all the aspects of the Company seem to be in a good shape but we are never satisfied with the current status, nor stop our steps forward to be better than today.

We are proud of the Company’s history of these 10 years and will keep on challenging to our bright future all together.

Thank you.

Message from Vice President Manufacturing:

I would like to express my gratitude for PT Kaltim Pacific Ammonia (KPA) has operated for exactly 10 years ago.

When traced back since the beginning of development, the KPA has been existed more than 10 years, and has been through several phases in its development process we may classify them as:

Project Phase (1996 - 2000) when companies and organizations was established, and factories began to be built,

Start up phase (2000 – 2002) when plant and company were started up. Development is not only physical, but also include organizational development,

Difficult Phase (2003 - 2004) KPA experienced failures in manufacturing, Failure of equipment due to a weakness in previous fabrication process, and the failure of electricity supply to KPA. This phase was a difficult time for KPA. However, this phase gave KPA so many precious lessons to remain strong and keep rising.

Stable phase (2006-2009) To fix the failures in previous years, KPA applied Reliability Improvement Program. The program was implemented in 2005, and had proved successful during the year 2006, when KPA production can be increased over the nameplate capacity. Since 2006, KPA had achieved production stability and organization. In this phase also the world Ammonia prices achieved good grades, so that this phase was a good time for the KPA.

Maintenance Phase (2010 - when the transfer to Pupuk Kaltim) KPA was established with the main purpose of benefit to its shareholders, and to be transferred to PT Pupuk Kaltim in the future. In this maintenance phase, the production of ammonia should be able to run reliable to meet the market needs and the plant should remain well maintained, so that at the time of transfer to PT Kaltim Fertilizer KPA will still feasible to run its production.

These three programs are a major concern of KPA in performing its duties until the time KPA transferred to PT Pupuk Kaltim,

  • Preservation and increase plant reliability program, to ensure the sustainability of the production of Ammonia.

  • Management Quality Improvement Program, by implementing risk management, Bussiness Continuity Management, and benchmarking with similar companies.

  • CSR (community development / community) in the science and knowledge, improvement of environmental quality, Safety and Health, as well as participation in Disaster   Relief.

Those three courses are major concern for KPA to finish the duties until the plant is transferred to PT Pupuk Kaltim.

Lastly, I want to say thank you to all employees of KPA and families, Shareholder (Mitsui and Toyota Tsusho), PT Pupuk Kaltim, Bontang City Government and the entire community, suppliers and contractors who have been supporting KPA and our programs.

Thank You
