Risk Management

Realizing that every business operation comes with risks, KPA has made risk management as one of the main support components in its operation. Based on the understanding that every risk can only be identified, perceived, measured, and controlled through a process, KPA views the necessity of a systematic management tool, supported by a comprehensive policy application, and a proven auditing system and procedure.

KPA believes that the prevention of loss can be done by identifying and understanding the potential risks in the planning period. Thus, KPA has identified several potential risks in its business, both externally such as commercial and juridical issues, national economic condition, national and regional social and political situation, and internally, such as the company’s and share holders’ condition. Operational risks from natural gas supply, electricity and sea water supply, fire protection system, environmental safety condition, natural condition, to management activity and control are also identified as some of the potential risks by KPA.

To lower all of those risks, several risk management efforts have been done during business operation. On the corporate level, risk transferring/insurance effort for boiler and machinery breakdown, business interruption, construction, and life insurance. In the future, on the corporate level, KPA has decided the needs to compose a business continuity planning and crisis management.

On the manufacturing level, KPA has applied several risk management efforts, such as non conformance/incident reporting, safety auditing, JSA safety committee and management meeting, root cause analysis, training and drill, emergency simulation response, ISO 14001, ISPS certification and safety management process. As a form of further anticipation, KPA is planning to do SMK3 and OHSAS 18001 certification, and prepare a disaster recovery plan.
